Weekend activities July 11th/12th/13th
Saturday 11th.
Picked some carrots at late evening from tunnel beds No.3,4,5. Found mostly healthy carrots. One or two show some signs of forking, one has bolted and another seems in the process of bolting. Carrots were eaten for Sunday's dinner and are very tasty.
Again the fresh carrotty smell is very evident once pulling straight from the ground.
The bolted carrot is a Nantes 2 variety, and since one more is going, i think i will harvest Row 1 & 2 from Bed 4 this coming weekend to prevent successive plants bolting to seed.
No actions with the onions except breaking off some of the doubled-over stem leaves for use in sandwiches. All looking healthy and green and bulb swelling is evident now too. Seed onions also coming on strongly.
See pictures No.230-258 here: http://picasaweb.google.com/jjohnflynn/Polytunnel1?feat=directlink.
Prepared the polystyrene borders for 2 more beds, including laying the plastic mulching and covering with gravel. There are now 4 unprepared beds in spans 4 and 5. This leaves 3 spans and 6 more bed borders to prepare.
Sunday's and Monday's dinner consisted of Orla potatoes and a different variety carrots grown in my tunnel.
All agreed that they taste great.
