Summary of February Tasks

1-3rd: Germinating radish & carrot seeds (x50each) in hotpress/ Seaweed. Joined the BLOG. Tested ph of new soil =7
7th Ordered all seeds & sprouting kit from Tamar & Chase with Mgt. total: £56.60 + £67.65 +post £8 + 8th Purchased spade & mypex, put rushes on compost, took old leaves away from strawberry bed, fixed wheelbarrow wheel & C took soil down to tunnel. Started computer chart for sowing veg.
9th Completed Soil Shake Test. Turned compost heap into 1 heap. Collected seaweed & spread on all boxes.
10th C filled up boxes with soil & covered with black plastic.
12th B&Q: bought hand-tools, 10 ceramic lg pots for herbs, wood for lids for compost heap, 13th C prepared bed by kitchen door for herb pots & J artichokes: dug over, laid ½ blocks in sand to support the pots level, covered in mypex. Pots down, then pebbles. I planted a row of artichokes. Weeded around gooseberry bush. Applied lime at base.

16th Ordered from Futureforests: hedging (Escalonia, Olearia, Fuschia) x 150 + rhubarb 10 @ €12 (mixed ‘Timperly Early’ & ‘Victoria’). (tot €162 + €15 courier x2) + 3 apple trees. Measured site & drew plan for planting. Seeds & sprouter from CHASE arrived & I divided with Mgt. 17th B&Q for water-butt, handled tub, outside paints, bamboo, heat propagator for tunnel. Studied raspberry, blackcurrant.
18th Collected manure x4 buckets. Nicely prepared the B&A raised beds in tunnel. Planted 29 garlic & 15 onion in A & transferred radish seedlings to B. Made BASL laminates. Carlos dug along fence.
19 Beds ready for strawberry. Apple trees & hedging arrived from Future Forests. Collected seaweed. Glance charts completed on soft fruits.
20th trimmed Cordyline australis, propagated gooseberry, mulched around gooseberry, B&Q for wheel for wheelbarrow & stakes, weeded perennial flowers, turned compost to 1 heap. C dug around compost & dug out an old bush.
22nd Derek Planted 10 raspberry & 4 blackcurrent; ½ the escallonia.
23rd Derek planted 3 apple trees (Crab, Russet, Bramley); pruned all apple.
24th I bought 2 stakes to support rasp, watering can & good saceteurs in Dangans. Watered the Escallonia & applied fertiliser to all trees. Prepared DL Comms presentation for this weekend at Dromcollogher.
25th sourced shredders; planted 3x potatoes ‘Sharpes Express First Early’ in tunnel & manured.
Then: moved some strawberry to 2 beds in tunnel & planted the rest of hedge. Planted ‘Autumn Bliss’ Raspberries x10; rhubarb x6. Went to Roadstone to look at & price pebbles & gravel – planning path to compost heap & around BASL beds.
