going off the grid ... part 4
so ... finally I managed to install the solar panels on top of the caravan. The whole construction turned out quite heavy - so I lifted it with the tractor on top and secured it with some stones (so that the wind can't blow it off the roof).
From the roof I have a cable running into my office which ends up in the controller box (second picture).
Here one can see the electricity produced by the solar panel and by the wind turbine + the state of the battery and it allows as well to stop the wind turbine.
So far I have just the solar panel hooked up - when I finished all the connection work it was already dark outside (that's as well the reason why there is nothing shown on the left amp meter) - so I couldn't really "see" the solar panels in action.
I'll have to wait for tomorrow ... and good weather :)
the wind turbine is still in parts (a Southwest Wind Power 400Watts AirX Land wind turbine) and waiting for a nice day to be installed on the roof.
I measured the average wind speed in my area (with my weather station) and got for the last months (October, November and now) an average wind speed of around 21 km/h!!!
Yeah - so the plan is that the hybrid system will produce electricity via sun power in the summer time and via wind power in the stormy winter time ... we'll see :)
I have some 12V equipment which I can use directly with the 12V from the battery (that's the reason for the 12V car plug below the controller box) and an inverter which enables me to use my "normal" 220Volts equipment.
I am looking forward to many sunny and windy days ;)
